Coming Back to the Blog After a Hard Semester

There was a stretch in grad school when Counselor’s Canvas went quiet.

The pause was not planned. School had become emotionally and physically draining, and I was also dealing with personal things that I did not have much room left to process publicly.

I Did Not Have Much Left for Writing

At the time, I think part of me saw not posting as another thing I was failing to keep up with. Looking back, I see it differently.

Writing this blog takes attention. It asks me to think about what I am learning, decide what I actually believe, and turn it into something another person might want to read. During that semester, most of that attention was already being used somewhere else.

Some Seasons Are Mostly About Getting Through Them

I do not want to rewrite that period into a story where every difficult experience immediately taught me something meaningful.

Some of it was simply hard. I was tired. I was overwhelmed. I was dealing with things I would rather have not been dealing with.

I learned from the semester eventually, but I did not need to be grateful for every part of it in order to keep moving.

Returning Did Not Mean Everything Was Resolved

When I came back to the blog, I was ready to write again. That was enough.

I did not need a dramatic comeback or a promise that I would never disappear again. I just needed enough space in my life to become curious about writing again.

That is something I appreciate about this site now. It has room for the gaps too. The periods when I posted constantly and the periods when I had nothing to give it are both part of the record.

A Question to Carry With You

Is there something you have been calling “giving up” that might actually have been a pause you needed?
